GPS
GPS contributes route position, velocity and geographic context. Sampling behavior, satellite conditions and signal environment affect the trace.
Motorcycle telemetry turns motion into data: speed, position, acceleration, braking force, cornering load and session history. The useful part is not collecting the most numbers — it is turning noisy sensor signals into measurements riders can actually compare.
Pacerift is an Android motorcycle telemetry app that records GPS and phone-sensor data and turns a ride into route, speed, acceleration, braking-force and performance analytics. Its platform is also expanding toward dedicated hardware for a more rigid reference frame.
The three layers work together. GPS provides geographic position and speed context; the IMU captures high-frequency motion; the estimation layer handles filtering, frame alignment, outliers and drift.

Accelerometers and gyroscopes capture rapid changes that GPS cannot resolve cleanly on its own, including braking, acceleration and rotational motion.
Filtering, outlier rejection, frame alignment and drift correction determine how usable the final telemetry becomes.
| Metric | What it tells you | Where riders use it |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | How velocity changes through a ride or session | Corner entry, apex and exit comparisons |
| Longitudinal G | Acceleration and braking demand | Brake release, throttle smoothness and repeatability |
| Lateral G | Cornering acceleration | Comparing corner load and consistency |
| Lean angle | Estimated roll relative to vertical | Studying cornering behavior and progression |
| Route | Geographic trace and segment context | Line visualization and route review |
| Session history | Performance over multiple rides | Tracking progression and comparing bikes |
Engine vibration, pothole impacts and sensor spikes can create false peaks. Pacerift's current website explains its filtering and outlier-rejection pipeline as part of its product differentiation.
Phone orientation is not always identical to motorcycle orientation. Mounting position, slip, body movement and chassis motion all affect interpretation.
The value of telemetry is often comparative: can you repeat the same braking point, carry similar entry speed and improve the exit?
Good telemetry distinguishes directly measured values from estimated values and explains the limitations of the underlying sensors.
Phone-first telemetry lowers the barrier to entry. The Pacerift Pod is intended to extend that platform toward a rigid chassis reference for richer lean and cornering analysis.
